Indiana Manufacturers Association Director of Membership Development

SUMMARY
Responsible for membership development, retention and marketing of programs for statewide manufacturers association.  Reports directly to the Vice President of Marketing and Member Services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.       Present and sell association memberships to potential business members.

2.       Present, promote and sell products and services to current and potential business members.

3.       Prepare action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and project the number of membership sales.

4.       Maintain membership database of contacts and tasks.

5.       Follow up on new leads and referrals.

6.       Identify member prospects and contact these and other accounts.

7.       Prepare presentations and proposals to increase association membership.

8.       Develop and maintain sales materials.

9.       Maintain current knowledge of legislative, regulatory issues, and product knowledge of all association-sponsored outside vendors.

10.   Establish and maintain current member and potential member relationships.

11.   Utilize the Board of Directors to increase association membership.

12.   Prepare a variety of status reports, including activity, closing, follow-up, and adherence to goals.

13.   Coordinate with association staff to increase membership and retention existing of members.

14.   Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.       Participate in marketing events such as seminars, association and related business events.

2.       Follow up for collection of dues payments.

 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

1.       Ability to persuade and influence others; develop and deliver presentations; and create, compose and edit written materials.   Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Knowledge of advertising and sales promotion techniques. This is normally acquired through a combination of the completion of a Bachelor's Degree and three to five years of sales or marketing experience.

2.       Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public.

3.       Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and occasional travel to current and potential clients. This requires the possession of a valid state driver’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for an office environment.  Requires occasional travel and may require occasional overnight travel and weekend and/or evening work.
